The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has s condemned the extrajudicial killing of Oghenemine Million Ogidi, by a team of police officers attached to the Uvwie Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, describing the incident as disturbing, unlawful, and unacceptable in a democratic society
While condemning the killing, Senator Ede Dafinone held that those who are entrusted with the protection of citizens should not turn their weapons against them.
According to him, “It is with deep shock and profound sadness that I received the news of the tragic death of Mr. Oghenemine Million Ogidi, a 28-year-old youth from Ujevwu, Udu Local Government Area, who was reportedly killed on the 26th of April, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State.
“This extrajudicial killing is a heinous act that I condemn in the strongest possible terms. The sanctity of human life is paramount, and it is utterly unacceptable for those entrusted with the protection of citizens to turn their weapons against them in such a reckless and unwarranted manner.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Ogidi family and the entire Udu community during this incredibly difficult time. No parent should have to endure the agony of burying a child under such preventable and traumatic circumstances.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family as they navigate this profound loss, and I share in their grief as we demand accountability for this inexcusable loss of life.
“I call upon the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, to immediately launch a comprehensive and transparent investigation into this incident to ensure the “trigger-happy” officer responsible is brought to justice.
“My office will actively interface with the police leadership to monitor the progress of this investigation, ensuring that no stone is left unturned and that the law takes its full course to bring closure and justice to the Ogidi family.
“While I urge the police to act with dispatch, I appeal to the constituents of Udu and the general public to remain calm and law-abiding, allowing the investigative authorities to perform their duties without interference.
Furthermore I use this medium to charge all armed security personnel operating within our district to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.
“Protecting lives, not taking them, must remain the primary duty of every officer, and we will continue to advocate for a security architecture that respects the rights and dignity of all citizens.”
